IDR is seeking a Lead Software Developer to join one of our top clients for an opportunity in Nashville, Tennessee. This role is a hands-on, lead-level development position where you will serve as the primary engineer owning solutions end-to-end across design, development, testing, and deployment. You’ll partner closely with business stakeholders in a growing distribution organization to modernize legacy systems, build new tools, and solve complex, real-world problems that directly impact internal operations and customers.
Position Overview for the Lead Software Developer:
- Serve as the primary, hands-on developer responsible for full lifecycle software delivery, from requirements through deployment and support
- Design, build, and maintain applications, integrations, and reporting solutions that support internal business operations and decision-making
- Work directly with technical leadership and business stakeholders to translate ambiguous business problems into clear, actionable technical solutions
- Modernize and extend existing systems while also contributing to greenfield initiatives and platform transitions
- Champion best practices around code quality, documentation, and lightweight process standards in a growing engineering function
Requirements for the Lead Software Developer:
- 6–8+ years of professional software development experience with demonstrated ownership of end-to-end solutions
- Strong proficiency in at least one core language such as Python, Java, or C++, plus experience working in modern cloud or platform environments
- Proven experience gathering requirements directly from business users and communicating complex technical concepts in a clear, approachable way
- Background working across the full SDLC, including design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance or optimization
- Self-directed, collaborative problem solver who is comfortable operating as a solo or lead developer in a fast-growing, family-oriented organization
